The Communist Revolution Was Caused by the Sun is the second work in Anton Vidokle’s trilogy about Russian cosmism and the poetic dimension of Soviet biophysicist Alexander Chizhevsky’s (1897–1964) research on the sun. Chizhevsky spent the majority of his career researching the correlation between heightened solar activity and mass social excitability. Shot in Kazakhstan, the work emphasizes that the goal of early Soviet space exploration emerged less from technical acceleration than it did from the struggle against the limitations of life on earth.
