Edwin Headley Holgate

Painter, printmaker, draughtsman, illustrator, muralist. Holgate studied in Paris before the First World War and in 1920 was responsible for the formation of the Beaver Hall Group in Montreal, uniting independent modern artists following the example of the Group of Seven. Primarily a figure painter and printmaker, Holgate was made a member of the Group of Seven in 1929.
