David B. MilneCanadian, 1882 - 1953

Though often regarded as one of the most important artists of his generation in North America, David Milne was practically unknown in Canada until 1934. He did not receive the same attention as his contemporaries in the Group of Seven until more recently. Milne went to New York City in 1903 to train as an illustrator. He was very active in the art scene there and received critical acclaim for his work. Milne supported himself through commercial artwork but actively developed his own painting, exhibiting five canvases in the famous Armory Show in 1913. In 1929 Milne returned to Canada, where he lived and painted in Ontario.
