Robert Symons was born in Sussex, England in 1989 to the painter Christian Symons, R.A and the composer musician Cecelia Davenport. His father taught him to paint. He came to Canada in 1913, served overseas during the First World War and, upon his return, became a cowboy in Saskatchewan. He retired to Silton, Saskatchewan in 1961 where he painted and wrote. His public work includes background murals for wildlife dioramas at the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History, Regina.
